Bottineau track opens season in Hazen

The Bottineau track and field teams finally made their way outdoor to participate in the Sakakawea Country Classic in Hazen last Saturday.
It was the first meet of the season for both the Braves and Stars.
On the boys side the Braves finished with 11 points, which put them in 20th place.
Top finishers for the Braves included senior Trevor Wettlaufer who finished in third place in the 400 meter dash with a time of 54.75 seconds. The finish was 2.51 seconds short of qualifying for state.
Also with a strong finish on the day was senior Owen Furby who tossed the shot put 45 feet, nine inches for a fifth place finish.
The Stars managed to place a little better as 22 points earned them a ninth place finish on the day.
Two strong relay finishes helped the Stars on the day. In the 400 relay the Stars finished with fourth with a 54.7 second finish.
The 800 relay finish of 1:56.64 earned Bottineau another fourth place.
Finally junior Courtney Gallagher parlayed a 16 foot, 7.25 inch mark in the long jump into a top finish.
The winning jump also qualified Gallagher for the state meet in Bismarck on May 24-25.
Bottineau’s next scheduled meet is today in Rugby.
