The Dakota College at Bottineau (DCB) Ladyjacks added two more student athletes to their 2013-14 rosters.

Whitney Brandvold of Bottineau and Tessa Walters of Makoti, N.D. both signed letters of intent to play basketball at DCB next season. Walters also plans on playing volleyball for the Ladyjacks.

Brandvold, a six-foot center for the Bottineau Stars this past season, is following the footsteps of her mother Karen, who played for DCB.

“It’s great to see a second generation, local young lady following in her mother’s footsteps as a Ladyjack,” stated Ladyjacks head coach Wayne Johnson.

Brandvold averaged 5.7 points and 3.4 rebounds per game as a senior for the Stars and was an All-District 11 selection.

“She gives us needed size around the basket,” Johnson stated. “Whitney has a nice shooting touch from 15 feet and in. We expect her to add depth to a pretty solid position for our 2013-14 team”

To add to her on the court game, Johnson believes she will be a strong student at DCB next year.

“Whitney is a good student and high character young lady. She will fit in well with our Ladyjacks,” Johnson stated.

She is the daughter of Robert and Karen Brandvold of Bottineau.

Signing a letter of intent to play both basketball and volleyball was Lewis and Clark North Shore forward Walters.

The 5-foot, nine Walters averaged a strong 16.4 points and 6.5 rebounds during her senior season, in which she earned her third All-District 15 and All-District 15 Tournament team selections.

Johnson believes she’ll add a strong scoring presence to DCB in 2013-14.

“She can score the basketball and that will be important to us as we have lost the majority of our scoring through graduation,” Johnson stated. “She played inside during her high school career as that’s where she was needed but we believe she has the athletic ability to expand her game.”

Walters scored more than 1,000 points in her career, while shooting 42 percent from the field.
Johnson is excited to add her to a Ladyjacks squad who advanced to the District finals this past season.

“We are very pleased to have added Tessa to our Ladyjacks basketball team,” Johnson stated. “She is a very athletic young lady and will add quality to our front court. I really feel she is a good fit for the Ladyjacks team.”

He also believes she’ll add a strong academic mind to DCB.

“Tessa is an excellent academic student and appears to be a very solid citizen. She certainly appears to be the type of student/athlete we seek in the Ladyjacks’ program,” Johnson stated.

She is the daughter of Leslie and the late Marty Walters of Makoti.

Brandvold and Walters join Savannah Bruce of St. John as the 2013-14 freshman class for the Ladyjacks.
