A Dakota College at Bottineau sophomore defenseman was recognized for his play on the ice this past season by being named a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Second Team All-American.

Robin Danielsson, who hails from Sweden, recently received the honor with a little shock.

“I was surprised,” Danielsson said. “I didn’t think I would be there.”

Jacks head coach Travis Rybchinski believes Danielsson was very deserving of the distinction.

“Robin is very deserving of receiving All-American status as he was one of our best players this season and most consistent,” Rybchinski stated. “We are sure going to miss him.”

Danielsson was pleased with his play, despite the Jacks lack of team success. DCB went 13-42-1 in the past two seasons.

“I felt like for me it went pretty good, even if we had a rough season,” Danielsson said. “We played many good teams, and we had very few guys and it was hard for everyone to proceed on the level that it used to be.”

Rybchinski had many compliments about Danielsson’s play.

“One of Robins assets to his game is his heavy shot and I wished he would of used it more. He also is a very smart player and he is an excellent teammate,” Rybchinski stated. “His teammates would also sentiment that he should receive this honor from the NJCAA.”

Danielsson is unsure of what he’ll do next, but he wants to stay stateside.

“I don’t really know yet, but I want to stay in the United States, go to college and play hockey,” Danielsson said. “I don’t know where yet, there are options, but that’s all I know right now.”

One thing is for sure, he enjoyed his time in Bottineau.

“I liked it here and everything has been good, the school has been good,” Danielsson said.

Danielsson was the lone DCB player to be named an All-American. Rival Williston State, who won the NJCAA National Championship had a pair of players named to both the first and second All-American teams.
