Another athlete from St. John, N.D. joined the Dakota College at Bottineau athletic family recently.

Savannah Bruce signed a letter of intent to play both volleyball and basketball for the Ladyjacks in 2013-14.

Bruce, a five-foot, nine inch forward averaged 18.9 point and 11.9 rebounds on 40 percent shooting as a senior this past season.

“This is a great signing for the Ladyjacks,” stated Ladyjacks head basketball coach Wayne Johnson. “I believe she will be an outstanding performer on our basketball team.”

She concluded her Woodchucks career with 1,179 points and 805 rebounds. Bruce played varsity all four years of high school and was the team’s MVP and top defensive player in her sophomore, junior and senior campaigns. She was also named to the All-District 8 team in those three seasons.

“She is very athletic, runs the floor well, and plays with good intensity,” Johnson stated. “I really believe her skill set will mesh well with how we want to play.”

Johnson is really impressed with Bruce’s versatility.

“She primarily played in the post as a senior but has the ability to be both an inside and outside scoring threat,” Johnson stated. “I see us using her in a variety of roles offensively making her a tough matchup for our opponents.”

Johnson thinks that Bruce will be a strong addition to a team that was one win away from NJCAA Nationals this past season.

“Savannah provides the Ladyjacks a great start to our recruiting class and will be a player we can build around in our quest to reach a national tournament,” Johnson stated.

Savannah is the daughter of Judd and Sarah Bruce of St. John.
