The Dakota College at Bottineau (DCB) baseball team snuck in three games before the snow storm hit in Miles City, Mont. last Saturday afternoon. A game scheduled for Sunday was snowed out.

DCB was lucky to get in the games, but they were not lucky when it came to results. After beginning the season 0-4 with four losses to Dawson Community College last weekend, the Jacks dropped all three against Miles City Community College on Saturday to fall to 0-7.

“(It was a) long, tough day of baseball,” stated Jacks head coach Eric Kester-Mabon.

The Jacks offense struggled as the Pioneers pitching slowed them down all afternoon. DCB managed to score three runs in the first game, which ended in an 11-3 loss to Miles City.

Sophomore Tyias Huck was on the hill for the Jacks in the game and took the loss, despite a strong outing.

Fellow sophomore JJ Dukes pitched equally well in game two as the Jacks offense again sputtered in a 3-0 loss.

“(We) ran into some very good Miles City pitching,” Kester-Mabon said. “Tyias Huck (game 1) and JJ Dukes (game 2) pitched well enough to win but our offense and defense let them down.”

The Jacks and Pioneers got one more game in before the storm hit. It was a 10-0 Miles City victory in five-innings.

Kester-Mabon is optimistic that the Jacks season will turn around, if they can locate fields that aren’t covered in snow.

“We will get better but with the recent weather it may be hard to finds a place to play,” Kester-Mabon said.

Jacks freshman named MonDak player of the week
Greg Thompson, a freshman outfielder and first baseman for DCB was named MonDak player of the week for the week of April 1-7.

The Hatton, N.D. native went 8-for-12 with two doubles and three runs batted in during four conference games with Dawson Community College on April 6-7 in Glendive, Mont.
