The Dakota College at Bottineau (DCB) baseball team played and won their first game of the season Saturday as they opened 2013 in Glendive, Mont. against Dawson Community College (DCC).

The MonDak foes then rattled off three wins over the Jacks in some very offensive battles.

“We hit the ball really well,” stated Jacks head coach Eric Kestor-Mabon. “(We had) 55 hits for the weekend, outhitting Dawson.”

In game one, sophomore Tyias Huck pitched a strong game as the Jacks earned a 6-4 win in their season opener. Huck pitched the first six innings strongly and fellow sophomore Tyler Storseth entered in the seventh to earn a save.

In game two a theme of the weekend emerged as the Jacks committed some fielding errors and fell to the Buccaneers 10-4.

Game three was again a story of some rusty fielders for the Jacks. They committed numerous errors in a 15-6 loss.

“Defensively we showed some of the rust that has been accumulating while stuck in the gym,” Kestor-Mabon stated.

The fourth game was another close one between the two conference rivals. Both teams traded blows throughout the contest as neither team gained an edge until the end.

DCC managed to thwart the Jacks efforts and took away the win 11-9. Kestor-Mabon was happy with the team’s resilience throughout the weekend.

“I was really impressed by the heart our team showed battling to try to stay in every game,” Kestor-Mabon stated. “(We’re) 1-3 in conference play and hoping for warmer weather.”

The Jacks’ next contests are doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday in Miles City, Mont. against the Miles City Community College, a MonDak Conference opponent.
