The Northeast Science Olympiad competition which was held at Dakota College at Bottineau on March 21 showed the creative brilliance of Bottineau’s Junior and Senior High teams when each team captured first place in their divisions.

By winning the Northeast Region of the competition, Bottineau will now be competing for the state title in Fargo on April 20.

With going to state, the two teams are preparing for the different events they will compete in, which means long hours after school and over the weekends as they prepare for a large number of events they will participate in on the campus of North Dakota State University.

For Morgan Costa, a member of the Bottineau High School’s Olympiad team, she enjoys being part of the Science Olympiad team because of its enjoyable nature and educational experience.

“It’s fun and you learn a lot of stuff,” Costa said. “And, it’s really challenging and that is what you need in high school because they don’t challenge you enough.”

The other students from the two Bottineau teams added that Science Olympiad also assists them in how to study with their present studies in school, and that it is also preparing them for college.

Although the hours are long for the Science Olympiad teams at the present moment, the students do not mind the hours they have to put into it because they all have one goal in mind.

“Our goal is to go to the Science Olympiad nationals,” Costa said.
