The Bottineau School Board held a special school board meeting to discuss new structural developments of Bottineau’s district, a letter of resignation and the future of one of its science instructors.

The Bottineau School Board has been considering future developments in recent months for the schools in the community in association with JLG and Kraus Anderson from Minot. On Thursday evening, Doug Larson from JLG and Brian Hook from Kraus Anderson gave a presentation of four different scenarios they have planned for the school district, which includes:

  •  Consolidate Pre-K through12 into the present middle, junior high and senior high building with some additions.

  •  Construct a two story facility on the north side of the high school building for Pre-K through Fifth Grade.
  •  Raze the current Central School structure and construct a new two story facility on the same block where Central School is currently located.
  •  Add a three story addition to the present day Central School.

The plans are all in the preliminary stages, but the school board will began discussions on the suggested plans.

LETTER OF RESIGNATION

In other school items on the board’s agenda, Katherine Tolstad, the high school’s family and consumer science teacher (home ec) resigned her position from the school stating that she has accepted a position in the Westhope School District as its school’s family and consumer science teacher. By accepting the position she will be closer to her home in the country and have more time for family.

CONTEMPLATE NON RENEWAL

The final item on the agenda was the receiving of a letter of resignation or a motion to contemplate the non renewal of BHS’s science teacher, Scott Hershey.

President of the board, Larry Brooks, asked Bottineau’s school superintendent, Jason Kersten, if Hershey had handed in a letter of resignation, which Kersten stated that he had not.
Kersten then made the recommendation to have a motion from the school board to contemplate the non renewal of Hershey’s contract due to his “inability.”

Kersten said no more about the issue, but the school board approved a special school board meeting for April 4, at 7 p.m. in the high school office’s meeting room to discuss and decide on contemplating the non renewal of Hershey’s contract as a teacher in Bottineau High School.
