Kim Arneson has opened a new diner in downtown Westhope where she is offering everyone’s favorite variety of food, that of home-style cooking.

“We offer everything,” Arneson said. “From hot beef, hot turkey, hot ham to burgers and fries, soups, steak, walleye, shrimp and prime rib either on Friday or Saturday, but usually on Saturday.
“We also offer breakfast all day long,” she added. “And we use only real potatoes in our kitchen.”

Outside of Arneson’s homemade dishes, she also bakes pies, cakes, cookies, brownies and fresh buns for her customers.

For Arneson, baking and cooking comes natural and it’s an art she has defined over the years working as a cook in a number of restaurants in the local area for a number of years, including the cafe she now calls the family’s business.

“My husband helps out here along with my son and daughter,” said Arneson, who added that she named the diner after her daughter. “My daughter really encouraged me to start-up a business here, but I told her I wouldn’t do it unless she was part of it.”

With a promise from her daughter, Arneson went forward and started the restaurant and named the family’s cafe, Hayley’s Diner.

The building Arneson’s diner is located in has a long history in the restaurant business. For most residents in the community, they can only remember the building being a cafe. When walking into the diner, it holds a delightful sense of history and longevity throughout the edifice right down to the old fashion counter top stools with wooden seats.

Arneson stated that she enjoys cooking, serving her customers and spending time with them.

“I really like it,” she said.

Hayley’s Diner is open Tuesday through Saturday from 6:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. The diner is closed on Monday.

Arneson plans to extend her hours in the future, especially after the local ag producers begin their field work in the spring and during the fall harvest. The cafe is also working on deliveries for those who live in town.

Arneson stated that the diner is open to hosting special occasions like birthdays, graduations, anniversaries and card parties in the cafe.

Individuals, who are looking for some good homemade dishes, Hayley’s Diner on Westhope’s Main Street will want to check out Arneson’s cafe because there are good meals and friendly, family service that will make your dining experience a pleasant and fulfilling one.
