Bottineau Figure Skating Club earn sixteen medals in contest

The Bottineau Figure Skating Club members competed in Bismarck’s Capital City Competition on Feb. 4 where they earned 16 medals overall, which included seven gold medals, four silver and five bronze.

COMPETITION

Leading the way for Bottineau’s figure skating club’s success in Bismarck was Makenna Coleman, who captured the Sonja Henie hat trick by receiving three gold medals in elements, artistic and program.

Morgan Wallin skated to three medals with gold in elements and program and silver in artistic, while Morgan Schweitzer earned a gold in program and silver in elements. Morgan Wittmayer added to the gold medals when she won the top spot for her age group in elements and program, along with a bronze medal in artistic.  

One of the youngest competitors for the Bottineau’s figure skating club, Maggie Bartlett, captured two silver medals in elements and program.

Delani Tweed and Lauren Tagestad each brought home two bronze medals with both earning honors in their elements and program.

Jenny Patterson, head coach of the Bottineau Figure Skating Club, and Kaytlyn Aufforth, the advanced skaters coach, instructed seven skaters for the competition.

SPRING SHOW

This Thursday, March 14, the figure skating club will hold its annual spring show. This year’s theme is, “Skate Down Broadway,” and the 30 club members will be performing such Broadway tunes as “Over the Rainbow,” “Fame,” “Footloose,” “Brave,” “Lollipop,” “How Can I Be” and “Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah.”

Head coach, Jenny Patterson, along with her assisting coaches, Jess Tagestad, Courtney Gallagher, Christine Wall, Kaytlyn Aufforth, and Lauren Vad, all who are former skaters of the Bottineau Figure Skating Club, conducted the choreograph, dance steps and skating routines for the show.

The event starts 7 p.m. at the Bottineau Community arena.
