A pair of Westhope-Newburg Sioux players set career milestones as they earned their way to the Region 6 title game this past week.
Junior Hunter Braaten, who reached 1,000 career points earlier this season, passed Jacob Brandt as the school’s all-time leading scorer.
Braaten scored 21 points against Our Redeemer’s last Monday to pass Brandt. Following the rest of the tournament, Braaten now has 1,231 points entering his senior season. He scored 508 points during this junior campaign. His season-best night for scoring came when he scored 31 points and broke 1,000 points against Stanley on Jan. 31.
Also making Sioux history was senior Kodie Hancock, who became the all-time Westhope-Newburg leader in rebounds against Our Redeemer’s last Monday.
Hancock nabbed 15 rebounds in the contest last Monday to pass former Sioux leader (and current Sioux girl’s head coach) Jordan Cooper.
Hancock concluded his career in last Thursday’s championship game 16 rebounds to put his career total at 622 rebounds.
In the loss to Rugby Hancock also broke another milestone as he scored his 1,000th career point. He finished with 1,006 points for his career.
