The 2013 North Dakota Academic All-State Teams have been selected. The high school seniors are nominated by their schools’ principals and compete for the honor on a state-wide basis in both Class A and Class B divisions. Student selection is based on overall grade-point averages, ACT or SAT test scores, extracurricular activities, community involvement and leadership qualities.

Joseph Hackman and Brianna Berg were chosen from Bottineau High School for the 2013 North Dakota Academic All-State Teams with Hackman being selected to the gold team and Berg to the bronze team.

Gold, silver and bronze team members will be presented a certificate of merit by the North Dakota Association of Secondary School Principals. In addition, the NBC North Dakota Sports Network will present a medallion to each team member during a televised “Parade of Academic Champions” at the Class B Basketball Tournament in Minot on Friday, March 8, and the Class A Basketball Tournament in Bismarck on Friday, March 15.

Certificates of Merit will also be sent to Honorable Mention Team members from the North Dakota Association of Secondary School Principals.

The secondary principal at Bottineau High School, Joel Bickford, stated that he is gratified with the NDASSP’s decisions on Hackman and Berg.

“Brianna Berg and Joseph Hackman were selected by me, to be nominees, based on academic criteria and their involvement in activities,” Bickford said. “I also find it refreshing that the staff, prior to the nomination, commented that these two care about academics. It is for students like this that the all state teams are selected. It is an outstanding accomplishment and the award brings great credit to the school, the community, their families and themselves, as truly outstanding individuals. As a school system we are very proud of them.”

Jason Kersten, superintendent of the Bottineau Public Schools is pleased with Hackman and Berg being named to these prestigious academic teams.

“The Bottineau Public School District is very proud of Joseph and Brianna. A school district our size is able to nominate two individuals for the Academic All State Team.  We are very pleased both Joseph and Brianna were named to the team,” Kersten said.  “They did a great job and each of them have made their parents, school and community very proud.”

This program is co-sponsored by the North Dakota Association of Secondary School Principals and the NBC North Dakota Sports Network: KFYR-TV in Bismarck; KMOT-TV in Minot; KVLY-TV in Fargo and Grand Forks; KQCD-TV in Dickinson and KUMV-TV in Williston.
