Mayor charged with DUI and other offenses

Mayor Ben Aufforth has been charged with four offensives which deal with a DUI incident that took place last week.

According to the Bottineau County Sheriff’s Department and the Clerk of Court’s Office, Bottineau’s mayor has been charged with the following items.

  •  Driving Operating a Vehicle Under The Influence Of Liquor Or Drugs
  • Fail To Give Immediate Notice Of Reportable Accident
  • Care Required In Operating A Vehicle
  • Leaving the scene of an accident involving unattended vehicle

Mayor Aufforth made a statement to the Bottineau Courant stating regret to the residents of Bottineau for the events which took place.

“Dear Citizens of Bottineau: This was a big mistake on my part.  I know I’m not perfect and this was irresponsible. This was my own choice.  I need to do better in the future. I am sorry. Mayor Ben Aufforth”

The incident is still under investigation.
