Westhope man murdered

A mysterious death of a Westhope man who has vanished took place in Westhope last week which appears to be a murder case. The death is currently under investigation by the Bottineau County Sheriff’s Department and the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

Little is known about the incident, but the Bottineau County Sheriff’s Department released a statement over the weekend concerning the incident.

“The Bottineau County Sheriff’s Office and the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigations are investing the disappearance and death of a Westhope man,” the press release stated. “The investigation is on going and no details about the case are being released at this time. The name of the victim has not been released. A suspect has been taken into custody in connection with the case and is awaiting formal charges.”

On Monday, Tim Mundt, 48, of Westhope, was charged with murder in this case during Mundt’s initial court appearance. His bail was set at $500,000 with surety. At the time of this writing, the Bottineau County Sheriff’s Department would not state who the victim was in the murder case.
