Losses to Des Lacs-Burlington (DLB) and Towner-Granville-Upham (TGU) in the past week for Westhope-Newburg dropped their overall record to 1-10 on the season.
The loss to TGU dropped the Sioux to 1-3 in district play.
Last Monday the Sioux hosted DLB in a Region 6 contest in Westhope.
The Sioux remained in the game after the first quarter, trailing 12-9. However, the Lakers offense kicked into gear in the second quarter and opened up a 16-point halftime lead.
Westhope-Newburg managed to whittle the lead down in the second half, but not by enough as DLB claimed at 53-39 victory.
Courtney Vogel had a strong outing for the Lakers with 20 points.
The Sioux had balanced scoring as Molly Lodoen led the charge with nine points, while Bailey Tofteland and Lauren Mach each added eight points apiece.
It was the third straight defeat for the Sioux.
The Sioux hoped to bounce back as they traveled to Towner on Thursday to take on the TGU Titans.
However, the Sioux offense was unable to gain any traction against a stifling Titans defense and the game went in favor of TGU 60-27.
Delrae Lattendresse exploded for 22 points for the Titans, who had nine players that scored in the game. Westhope-Newburg was led by senior Jade Teske’s eight points. Tofteland and Mach added six in the losing effort.
The Sioux have another tough week upcoming as they play at 7:30 p.m. tonight at Bottineau and then host Rugby at 7:15 p.m. on Friday evening
