Two home games against a pair of MonDak opponents the past week turned into two more tough defeats for the Dakota College at Bottineau men’s basketball team.
First on Monday the Jacks fell 75-56 to a big, physical United Tribes Technical College (UTTC) team. Then on Wednesday the Jacks again came out on the losing end in a 92-73 defeat at the hands of Lake Region State College in another game in the Woodshed.
In Monday’s loss to UTTC the Jacks had a 34-32 halftime lead, but ran out of gas in the second half as the Thunderbirds took advantage and scored 43 points.
Five UTTC players were in double figures, led by Jarell Grant at 17 points. The Jacks were led by Kristoff Walker. The freshman guard scored a game-high 25 points off the bench for the Jacks.
Also in double figures was Marquis Thomas, who had 10 points. Freshman Billy Engel had nine assists in the loss.
DCB was without Jayden McMillin, who is the teams leading scorer and a big presence in the paint.
The Jacks were out rebounded 45-27, but committed four less turnovers than the T-birds.
DCB for the second straight game, could not keep up with a strong MonDak opponent in the second half. The Jacks, who were again without McMillin, trailed by only four at haltime, but as with the game on Monday against the T-birds the Royals out scored the Jacks in the second half to go on to a 19-point win.
Melvin Langstaff had 21 points to lead all scorers in the game. The Jacks were again led by Walker, who had 16 points. Also in double figures were Roybell Baez (15 points), Colby Boyes (12 points) and Thomas (11 points).
The Royals shot 50 percent from three point range, while the Jacks shot only 35 percent from beyond the arc. Again DCB was out rebounded 44-30.
The pair of home losses dropped the Jacks to 9-13 on the season. Next up for the Jacks is a game at 8 p.m. tomorrow at home against Turtle Mountain Community College. The Jacks also play at 8 p.m. on Thursday in Williston against Williston State College.
DCB played last night at North Dakota State College of Science, but scores and stats weren’t available by press time.
