Sioux topped by Raiders

A 66-53 loss to Drake-Anamoose this past week dropped the Westhope-Newburg Sioux boy’s basketball team at a record of 8-5 on the season.

The loss to the Raiders last Thursday evening dropped the Sioux’s District 11 record to 1-3 with three games to play.

The Sioux and the Raiders played evenly through one quarter, and Drake-Anamoose held a one-point lead at halftime.

Drake-Anamoose got the upperhand in the third quarter and did not look back, cruising past the Sioux by 12 in the second half in route to a 13-point victory.

The Sioux lost the game despite to strong performances from juniors Ethan Miller and Hunter Braaten.

Braaten finished with a team-best 23 points, four assists and four steals. Miller had a double-double with 17 points and 14 rebounds, including five offensive boards.

Westhope-Newburg will continue their trek through district play this week as they play road games at Sawyer (7:15 p.m. on Tuesday) and Dunseith (7:15 p.m. on Friday).
