Bottineau 19U hosted their first Jamboree this past weekend as 12 teams from North Dakota, Montana and Canada came to Bottineau to play hockey.
Bottineau won all three of their games, despite some stiff competition. On Friday Bottineau scored a 10-2 win against the Langdon Blades. Bottineau fell behind early as Langdon scored two early goals.
However, it was all Bottineau after that as they scored 10 unanswered goals to win by eight goals.
Bottineau got to work quickly after falling behind. By the end of the period, goals from Karlee McCloud and Ashley Blue tied the game. McCloud was assisted by Blue and Natalie Bahr, Blue’s goal was unassisted.
In the second period it was Blue notching the eventual game-winner. Erin Serverson earned a helper on the play.
Bottineau’s dominance continued throughout the period as they scored twice more. The first goal was an unassisted goal from Bahr. The second goals came from Blue, as she took passes from Bailey Neubauer and Severson. It gave Blue a hat trick, but she wasn’t done.
In the third period Blue assisted on a pair of Severson goals, and Shelby Pedie also assisted on one of the goals.
Blue then proceeded to score another pair of goals in the final period. Alexis Kihle assisted on the first goal, while Neuabuer and Sonja Gilje scored on the second goal.
McCloud capped off the scoring with a goal after taking passes from Bahr and Neubauer.
Jacie Ceglowski was solid in net for Bottineau with 25 saves. Bottineau out shot Langdon 41-27.
“We really focused on passing the puck a lot, and getting the puck to people who usually don’t get it,” said Bottineau defense Bailey Neubauer.
Bottineau continued their winning ways on Saturday in a tough fought 5-3 victory over West Fargo in Rugby.
Blue again gave Bottineau the advantage in the first period as she scored a pair of goals. The first goal was unassisted, but Kihle assisted on the second goal to put Bottineau up 2-0.
West Fargo answered back in the second period with a pair of goals, the second of which came on the power play.
Bottineau took the lead in the third period as Blue earned her second hat trick in a row. McCloud and Paige Vad each earned helpers on the play.
Again West Fargo evened the score, but Blue wasn’t done and she hit the game-winner to put Bottineau up 4-3 in the final frame. McCloud and Gilje notched assists on the game-winning goal.
The scoring was capped off with 28 seconds remaining as Severson took a pass from Gilje to make the final score 5-3.
Bottineau was out shot in the game 36-23, but Ceglowski performed spectacularly in net stopping 33-of-36 West Fargo shot attempts.
“We really communicate well on the ice,” Neubauer said about why Bottineau has been winning. “Our passing has really improved, so I think that’s helped a lot.”
Bottineau closed out the jamboree on Sunday by cruising to a 17-1 win over Mayport.
The Ice Dawgs did not stand much of a chance as Bottineau barraged the net all game. It started with a Blue goal. McCloud and Vad earned assists on the goal.
Bahr scored the first of her goals in the game 30 seconds later. Severson notched the assist.
Mayport then earned their lone goal of the game with 8:23 left in the first period.
Bottineau wasn’t done in the period as they scored four more times in the final 6:30.
First it was Bahr with her second marker of the game. Severson and Kihle notched assists on the play.
Blue scored her second goal of the game later as she took a pass from Vad to stuff it in.
Less than 30 seconds later Severson struck for Bottineau as Kihle earned her second helper of the game on the play.
Severson struck again to round out the first period scoring. Bahr assisted on the goal.
The second period was all Bottineau as they found the back of the net early and often.
McCloud kicked it off with an unassisted marker early in the period.
Bahr earned her hat trick on a pass from Kihle at 14:50 in period two. Blue scored the next goal for Bottineau as she took passes from McCloud and Vad.
Vad scored a goal of her own as the barrage of goals continued, Bahr earned the assist.
Goals from Pedie, Bahr, Cheyenne Sturlaugson and Bailey Neubauer rounded out the scoring for Bottineau in the second period. Earning assists on the goals were Kihle and Neubauer.
Bottineau managed to score three more times in the final frame as the defense got offensive in the period.
Neubauer kicked off the scoring with her second goal of the game. Vad assisted on the play.
Sturlaugson scored on a pass from Pedie later on in the period to make it 16-1 Bottineau.
Rounding out the Bottineau scoring was Gilje as she received an assist from Neubauer to score Bottineau’s 17th goal.
“It was good,” Neubauer said about scoring the goals. “We really passed the puck well and got it going so that we could get a lot of goals in.”
Bottineau has won 13 games this season, every game they played except for one exhibition game against Bismarck 19U on Dec. 22.
Bottineau hopes that this is the year that they can get past the best teams in the state. Last year they finished a runner-up at the state tournament, and the year before that they finished third.
“We’ve won most of our games this year, so we’re really hoping to make it far in the state championship,” Neubauer said.
They have a tough weekend again as they host Sidney, Mont. at 3:45 p.m. on Saturday and Clearwater, Manitoba on Sunday.
