The Bottineau Braves basketball team hit the road to compete in two away games before the Christmas break.
First last Monday the Braves traveled to Langdon to play the Cardinals. On Tuesday the Braves played their second game in as many days as they went to Minot to play Our Redeemer’s Christian School (ORCS).
First on Monday the Braves fought off a fiery Langdon Cardinals team on their own court in a 51-48 Braves victory.
Bottineau trailed by three at the half, but kicked both the defense and offense up a notch in the second half to secure a hard earned win.
Junior Garrett Pollman continued to lead the Braves on offense as he scored 16 points. Fellow junior Jake Carroll had 10, while senior Jeremiah Aberle added nine for the Braves in the win.
Kalton Agnes did most of the scoring for the Cardinals as he led all scorers with 24 points.
The Braves tried to make it two in a row on Tuesday when they traveled to play the ORCS Knights in a Region 6 match up. However, it was ORCS taking a big win 68-45 thanks to a second-half surge.
The Braves and Knights were deadlocked through a quarter in a 15-15 tie. The struggle remained as both teams scored 10 points in the second quarter to bring a 25-25 tie into halftime.
However, something clicked for the Knights in the second half as they caught fire and dumped 43 points on the Braves to take a commanding 23-point win.
ORCS leading scorer was Logan Sorum with 25 points. Josh VanLith added 18, most of which was in the second half.
Bottineau was led by Carroll, who again had 10. Pollman added eight, while junior Philip Neubauer had eight points.
Following the 1-1 week the Braves head into the Christmas break at 3-2 on the season.
Bottineau’s next action will be from Dec. 27-29 at the Mandan Holiday Tournament. Bottineau won the tournament last season.
