At the Shootout on the Prairie in Minot this past weekend the Bottineau Stars opened their season with two losses. The Stars offense sputtered in a 47-25 loss to Dickinson Trinity on Friday and a 54-29 loss to Thompson on Saturday.
First in Friday’s loss to the Titans, the Stars got off to a rough start, scoring only 10 points in the first half and only three in the first quarter.
The Titans took the lead early and cruised to the win. Katelyn Grinsteinner and Jillian Stockert led the Titans with nine points a piece.
Bottineau were led by sophomore Stephanie Brenden and senior Katryna Hahn, who had six points each.
Rachael Fix, Megan Saville, Kennedy Olson, Maria Diepolder, Courtney Gallagher and Whitney Brandvold each had one basket a piece in the loss.
The Stars lost their second straight contest on Saturday to a tough Thompson team. The Tommies also held the Stars offense in check in the game, especially to start.
Bottineau again got off to a slow start scoring only two buckets in the first quarter and 11 points in the first half.
Hahn had a strong game offensively, however as she dropped a game-high 13 points. Gallager added six points, while Saville and Brenden had four and Megan Fix had two points to round out the Bottineau scoring.
McKenna DeMoe and Bethany Ivesdal each had nine points to lead Thompson.
The 0-2 Stars do not play this week. They will search for their first victory next at 4 p.m. on Dec. 29 in Watford City.
Their next home game will be at 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 3 when they host St. John.
