Farmers Union Oil Co. of Westhope has been named the 2012 Outstanding Anhydrous Ammonia Dealer of the Year in the state of North Dakota.
According to Jim Gray, pesticide and fertilizer director of the North Dakota Department of Agriculture, nominees for the award were assessed in the areas of recordkeeping, inspection records, personal protective equipment, training, risk management program and overall appearance. The Farmers Union of Westhope was ranked at or near the top in each of the categories.

Gray added the individuals who evaluated the Farmers Union of Westhope anhydrous ammonia dealership stated the dealership had excellent organization and that the scale system which is utilized by the facility runs efficiently.

The surveyors also praised the dealership’s nurse tank records and extra equipment, which is at the facility to fix small nurse tank deficiencies in a timely manner.

Gray added the evaluators also stated the Farmers Union of Westhope’s anhydrous ammonia facility conducted meetings with the local agricultural producers, where it offered training and answered questions with the Department of Agricultural, which assisted the dealership’s customers to have a greater knowledge on safety and the legal use of anhydrous ammonia.

“I thank you for your efforts to maintain a positive image of the anhydrous ammonia industry,” Gray said to Kevin Schroeder, manager of the Farmers Union of Westhope. “Your compliance with state and federal regulators helps make North Dakota a safer place, as well as ensuring that North Dakota farmers continue to have access to anhydrous ammonia.”

The Farmers Union of Westhope was awarded the 2012 Outstanding Anhydrous Ammonia Dealer of the Year on Nov. 27 during the North Dakota Ag Association meeting in the Dakota Hall of the Fargo Holiday Inn.
