Stars reflect on strong season at banquet

The Bottineau Stars recently held their end of the year banquet after finishing a 24-14 season capped off by a runner-up finish in the Region 6 tournament.

Other season highlights for the Stars in 2012 included: third place in the Bottineau Early Bird Tournament, DLB Tournament consolation runner-ups, District 11 regular season champions, District 11 tournament runner-ups.

Individually three Bottineau Stars broke single season records this past season. Senior Katryna Hahn had 384 kills, besting the previous record of 379 set in 2006 by Kelsey Aide.

Junior Bailey Neubauer had 866 assists, besting the 824 assists earned last season by Ashleigh Aufforth. And lastly, junior Rachael Fix had a 98.4 percent serve percentage, which surpassed the prior record of 97.8 percent set by Aide as well.

Those three were of course also Stars season leaders in those respective categories as well.
Other stat leaders included junior Danielle McDonald’s team best 281 digs, Hahn’s team-high 70 blocks and Neubauer’s team-best 89 aces.
Hahn finished her career with 749 kills and 200 blocks.

At the banquet the Stars also announced their 2012 team award winners. Winners included: MVP, Hahn; Most Improved, Stephanie Brenden; Best Defensive Player, McDonald; Rookie of the Year, Brenden; Hardest Worker, McDonald.

The Stars also had three All-District performers in Hahn, Neubauer and McDonald. Hahn and McDonald were also named to the All-Region team as well.

Bottineau had three seniors in 2012: Hahn, Ashley Blue and Katie Gottbreht.
