After earning shutouts in their first two games this past season the Bottineau 19U girls hockey team gave up their first goal this past weekend against the Williston Cougars.

I don’t think goalie Jacie Ceglowski and Bottineau minded, as it came in a 21-1 win last Saturday in Bottineau.

Ceglowski didn’t get much work in the game as she only faced nine Cougar shots as Bottineau out shot the Cougars 52-9.

“I’d rather it be a little more exciting, because then I’ll have some competition and I’ll actually be able to do something,” Ceglowski said.

Bottineau improved to 3-0 with the win, and Ceglowski said it was a team effort.

“We’re working as a team, and practicing a lot,” Ceglowksi said. “Just getting along well helps too.”

Bottineau kicked off the game with three straight goals in the first period.

Senior Ashley Blue scored two of the three goals. Bailey Neubauer netted the other Bottineau first period goal. Getting helpers in the period were Erin Severson, Karlee McCloud and Sonja Gilje.

Kenadee Fritz then put the only Williston goal of the game on a breakaway.

After that it was all Bottineau as they scored 18 straight goals in the second and third periods.
Bottineau scored 13 alone in the second period. Hitting the back of the net in the period were Blue (twice), Alexis Kihle, Natalie Bahr (five), Severson, Victoria Gullett, Gilje (two) and Neubauer.

Plenty of assists were dished in the period as well as the following players assisted on goals on the 13 second-period goals: Bahr (four), Blue (two), Neubauer (four), Paige Vad (two), Kihle, Ceglowski and Gilje.

The scoring didn’t stop for Bottineau in the final period as they capped off the win with six third-period goals.

Vad scored a pair in the final frame, while Cheyenne Stuflaugson, Bahr and McCloud each scored once.

Many Bottineau players assisted on the third-period goals. Earning helpers in the period were: McCloud (two), Shelby Pedie (two), Blue (two), Gullett and Neubauer.

Following the big wins Bottineau has high hopes for the season.

“We want to win, and win state,” Ceglowski said. “Hopefully we can win against a lot of teams.”

Bottineau faces a little stiffer competition with three games in the upcoming week. First at 6:45 p.m. on Friday, Bottineau hosts Cleawater Manitoba. They then will travel to Crosby for the rivalry game on Saturday. They then return on Sunday to host Watford City at 4:30 p.m.

“Next week we have some competition, so we’ll be getting ready for that,” Ceglowski said. “Saturday we play against Crosby, so hopefully that works out.”
