Senior Trevor Wettlaufer and the whole Bottineau football team were honored recently despite a 2-6 season.
Wettlaufer, a tailback, was the team’s leading rusher, a distinction he has earned each of the past three seasons. In his senior campaign he rushed for 1,749 yards decimating the previous BHS record of 1,397 yards set by Gene Cagle in 1992.
With the outstanding season for Wettlaufer also came the accolades for both him and his teammates.
Wettlaufer and fellow senior offensive lineman Wyatt Johnson were named not only to the All-Region team in the West Region, but were also named to First Team All-State.
Other Braves on the All-Region squad were honorable mentions: seniors Jeremiah Aberle, Vince Bechtold and Owen Furby.
Along with the single season rushing record, Wettlaufer also broke the career rushing record with 3,378 yards in his career. The mark obliterated the previous mark of 2,373 yards set in 2001 by Dan Seykora.
Finally, the Braves as a team rushed for a record 2,276 yards in the 2012 season. This broke the previous record (set in 2011) of 1,892 yards.
“We are obviously very proud of Trevor and the teams accomplishments,” stated Bottineau Braves head coach Rob Bedlion. “These records are something the whole team can be proud of.”
In all 15 seniors played their final season on the grid iron for the Braves, who realign down to Class A next season.
