Although winter weather rolled in on Thanksgiving morning, Bottineau’s 10th Annual United Parish Church Community Thanksgiving Mission Dinner continued on with a large number of individuals being served a Thanksgiving meal.

The community Thanksgiving dinner was established in 2002 for the elderly, college students, new members to the community and people traveling through the area who do not have family to spend the holiday with in Bottineau. Ten years later the tradition continues.

This year, close to 150 individuals found their way in the snow coming down outside to the dinner, which consisted of a traditional Thanksgiving meal of turkey, stuffing, potatoes, cranberries, pumpkin pie and a whole a lot more.

“This year we cooked 10 turkeys for the meal,” said Pastor Deb Burger, pastor of the United Parish

Church and director of the annual community Thanksgiving dinner.

The community meal comes directly from the community. Each Thanksgiving season, local individuals, groups, organization and members of different church denominations volunteer their time, donate food and grant funding for the event.

Burger stated that this year’s community Thanksgiving dinner was a blessed time and a success due to all the volunteers and dinner guests who attended the event and made it a festive time.
