Norman and Twilla Glinz have been named the 2012 Friend of Education by the Bottineau Education Association for the work they have conducted in supporting education and the community of Bottineau.

The Glinzs were awarded the most prestigious accolade of the Bottineau Education Association on November 14 during a ceremony which was held at the Middle School library.

Mary Grosgebauer, a social science instructor at Bottineau High School, hosted the event to a large number of guests.

“Norman and Twilla are patriots of the high and college systems in Bottineau,” said Grosgebauer. “They truly do support education and its endeavors.”

Grosgebauer pointed out the Glinzs have set-up trophy cases in the high school, establishing the Glinz Family Education Scholarship at Dakota College at Bottineau and have worked together at the Bottineau County Museum where they have procured land for the museum, constructing buildings, acquired historical pieces and enhancing the history of Bottineau.

“We would be so lost without their input for our community. They have truly, truly preserved the past for future generations in a multitude of ways,” Grosgebauer said.

Before presenting the award to the Glinzs, Grosgebauer ended her presentation with a quote from Twilla. “She once said in a newspaper, ‘When you volunteer it makes you feel better about yourself and about your community.’ This is very true and it is why Twilla and Norman deserve to be this year’s recipients of the Friend of Education by the Bottineau Education Association,” Grosgebauer said.

The Glinzs said in their acceptance speech that their success in life has come from working hard and never giving up.

Henry David Thoreau once stated, “The language of friendship is not words but meanings.” The friendship that the Glinzs have given education in Bottineau shows just how much meaning they have in their graceful and giving hearts through the tremendous work they have conducted for the schools in Bottineau and the community, itself.
