Scoring only twice over the weekend the Dakota College at Bottineau hockey team dropped two in Wisconsin last Friday and Saturday.
The 6-1 and 5-1 losses came at the hands of St. Norberts JV.
Friday went the way of St. Norberts right from the get go as the Knights scored four times in the first period.
Leo Dignan and Jake Wild each pounded in a pair of goals past Jacks netminder Dylan Snyder in the period.
The Jacks did finally get on the board in the second period as Seth Serhienko notched an unassisted marker at 18:43.
However, the Knights pushed two more goals past Snyder in the final frame as Jeremy Ballard scored his first goal, and Dignan earned his hat trick.
Snyder finished the game with 35 saves in 41 tries, while Dylan Hudson, the St. Norberts goaltender had 28 saves in 29 opportunities.
“Friday night was disappointing as we got down 4-0 after the first. They were a good team with a couple of really good players. By the time we hit the third period on Saturday we were pretty fatigued,” stated Jacks head coach Travis Rybchinski. “We were down to four defensemen after Robin (Danielsson) went down with an injury in the warm up of the first game so we were down to four for the weekend. After we settled down and did our jobs we played better. We are very frustrated right now with the injuries and guys who have left the program due to homesickness. We are short some bodies now but we will keep working and getting better.”
Saturday did not fair much better for the Jacks as they again were unable to top St. Norberts JV.
After a scoreless first, Ballard scored for the Knights in the second period to put St. Norberts up 1-0.
DCB answered later in the period as Reed Loucks took passes from Donovan Gault and Ryan Schaner to tie the score.
But after the 1-1 tie held through the second period, the Knights exploded for four goals in the final period.
Dignan had a pair of goals, while Dan Sheenan and Colin Dassow scored as well.
Hundson had 20 saves in the game as DCB was out shot 45-21.
Goalie Cody Brooks had 40 saves in the losing effort for the Jacks.
“In my 11 years here we have never had this much bad luck with guys who are hurt, and fluky injuries. The good thing is we are getting guys a lot of minutes right now and that will only get them better once everyone gets healthy,” Rybchinski stated. “The bad part is some guys are being asked to play roles they are not accustomed to playing. In February we will be a better team because of this but right now we have to stay the course.”
