New Bottineau head volleyball coach Steve Dunrud knew he had his hands full with the Rolla Bulldogs last Tuesday evening in Bottineau.

That’s because Dunrud started the volleyball program in Rolla years ago, and he was familiar with their success this season.

Rolla rolled into Bottineau in the Stars’ final home match of the season and swept away their chance at their 21st win.

The Bulldogs knocked off the Stars in three tightly-contested sets (25-20, 25-20, 25-16). Rolla used their height and strong hitting to force the Stars into a defensive mode that made it hard to score.

Five different Bulldogs had six kills in the win, while Bryjett Nordmark had 27 digs to lead all players.

Bottineau was led by junior Danielle McDonald who had team-bests in digs (20) and kills (eight). Senior Katryna Hahn also played well with eight kills and 12 digs.

Bottineau played their final match of the regular season last night in Langdon, but scores and stats were unavailable by press time.

Despite the loss, Bottineau (20-11, 6-1) still clinched the top seed in the District 11 Tournament and kick the tournament off at 3 p.m. on Thursday in Velva against eight-seeded Dunseith.

The championship will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 29 in Velva.
