Ladyjacks head coach Cory Fehringer said the Dakota College at Bottineau volleyball squad is making strides, despite only getting in the win column once this past week.

DCB began by getting swept in a 3-0 match against the North Dakota State College of Science (NDSCS) at the Ladyjacks homecoming game last Wednesday.

However, Fehringer believes that the match was a drastic improvement from the Ladyjacks first time against NDSCS.

“The first meeting with NDSCS was not pretty for our Ladyjacks as it seemed we never stood a chance against a talented opponent,” Fehringer stated. “Wednesday evening was a different story as our team competed to win each set. A couple breaks, a couple inches, a couple different calls would have made a difference and allowed our ladies to possibly put the pressure on NDSCS.”

The Ladyjacks did lose in three though the sets were competitive, 25-20, 25-21 and 25-19.

Sophomores Jackie Miller, Courtney Hart and Josie Degagne combined for 18 kills in the loss for DCB. Jordyn Sondrol had eight digs, while Ashleigh Aufforth dished out 25 set-assists in the match.

DCB then traveled to Bismarck for the Mystic Invitational this past Friday and Saturday.

On Friday the Ladyjacks got off on the right foot with a 3-0 sweep of Assiniboine out of Canada.
However on Saturday it was a different story for DCB. MonDak and region rival BSC swept the visiting Ladyjacks 25-16, 25-20, 25-20.

Mackenzie Wade had 20 digs to lead the Mystics past DCB.

BSC also beat Assiniboine and Dakota County Technical College over the weekend.

DCB could not however overcome the Dakota County onslaught on Saturday afternoon. DCTC swept the Ladyjacks 3-0 to make DCB a 1-2 finisher on the weekend and a 1-3 record for the week.

DCB is 9-12 overall on the season and 6-7 in MonDak play.

The Ladyjacks hosted Jamestown JV last night, but stats and scores were unavailable by press time.

DCB will travel to play at 7 p.m. on Wednesday against Lake Region State College. They will then play in Glendive for a triangular against Dawson and LRSC.

The Region XIII tournament begins on Oct. 26 in Wahpeton.
