The Bottineau Braves’ losing skid continued last Thursday as they lost their sixth straight West Region contest to Dickinson Trinity 28-13 in Dickinson.

The Titans scored in each of the four quarters, and jumped out to a lead after a 12-yard Brendin Steiner run in the first quarter.

After Ben Gordon hit Travis Heidt for 19-yards early in the second quarter the Titans took a 14-0 lead.

Senior Trevor Wettlaufer brought the Sioux to within one early in the third quarter after he scored touchdowns in both the second and third quarter.
Gordon rushed 32-yards for a score to put the Titans up 21-13 later in the third. Trinity scored once more in the fourth as Gordon found Jacob Volk for a nine-yard score to make it a 28-13 win.

“We played a very good football team on Thursday and I thought we competed with them,” stated Braves head coach Rob Bedlion. “We came out hard in the third quarter, scored, and were down 14-13.  I thought after that they wore us down a bit and were able to use their big front to move the ball on the ground.”

Wettlaufer led a strong ground attack for the Braves in the loss. The senior carried the ball 35 times for 216 yards and two scores.

“We did well in the running game as well and were able to move the ball effectively at times but had some fumbles that killed some important drive,” Bedlion said.

Senior Wyatt Johnson led the Braves defense with 12 tackles and an interception.

The Titans were led by Mason Heth who had 17 carries for 90 yards. Gordon went 11-for-21 for 155 yards, two scores and one interception.

Bottineau (2-6, 0-6) has one more game left this season as they host Belcourt (0-8, 0-6) at 7 p.m. tonight to try and retain the Braves Cup. Bottineau has hoisted the trophy the last two seasons.

“We have one more game and the guys are happy to be home for it,” Bedlion stated. “We hope to end the season playing our best against Belcourt.”
