The members of Bottineau student council spent this past week volunteering their services to a number of entities with the only goal of helping others.
“The student councils in North Dakota have decided to do a Student Day of Caring on October 11 this year,” said Sienna Bullinger, advisory to Bottineau High School’s student council.
“However, the Bottineau student council decided to make it a Student Week of Caring.”
Jesse Klebe, president of BHS’s student council, stated that they wanted to do more.
“We all decided to make it a week,” Klebe said. “The student council just had the ambition this year and decided they wanted to get a little bit more done than what you can do in one day. It is kind of hard to do one day of things and say you are doing a bunch of stuff. But, where we thought we would try to help different parts of the community.”
During last week, the student council of BHS went to the following places and conducted a variety of services:
Monday - Bottineau Fire Department where they cleaned trucks and scrubbed floors.
Tuesday – Bottineau’s Middle and Primary schools where they tutored and read to the students who participate in the After School Program.
Wednesday – The Good Samaritan Center-Bottineau where they played Bingo with the residents of the center.
Thursday – Bottineau’s Middle and Primary schools where they once again participated in the After School Program.
Klebe stated that these entities were important to them because of the dedication these group of bodies give to the community each day.
“The fire department is a volunteer department and we realize how much these guys do. And, they don’t get paid or anything, so we thought it would be nice to help them out a little bit,” Klebe said. “With the Good Samaritan Center we felt it is good to help out our elderly people. And the school, kids always remember when older kids come and help you.”
Klebe said Bottineau High School’s student council enjoyed their time with the individuals they volunteered their time to.
“It has been a lot of fun,” Klebe said. “A lot of things are that you make it as fun as it is going to be, and we had a fun time helping out.”
Outside of enjoying their volunteer work, Klebe stated the students also learned from their experience.
“You discovered that you get a good feeling when you help other people out,” he said.
Bottineau High School students who participated in the student council’s Week of Caring include Jesse Klebe, Alberto Moncera, Cody Bedlion, Jarett Lord, Maria Diepolder, McKenzie Jensen, Tristen Vall, Jair Peltier, Trevor Wettlaufer, Kaytlyn Aufforth, Rachael Fix, Kaitlyn Gottbreht, Karlee McCloud and Kaitlyn Pidgeon.
