Dakota College at Bottineau and St. Andrew’s Health Center’s First Annual Lake Metigoshe Turtle Trot was a huge success, which saw close to 100 walkers and runners to assist the college and health center raise money for college scholarships and the center’s foundation office.

“I was ecstatic about the result of our first Metigoshe Turtle Trot. We had a great turnout, a huge number of DCB student athletes and other volunteers that helped and our planning committee put in hours to make the event go as smoothly as it did,” said Brandy Simpson, director of Dakota College at Bottineau’s Alumni Office. “At this point, we most definitely plan to make this an annual event. Not only is it an awesome fundraiser, it is also a great event for our community.  We had a large number of local participants, but also pulled runners from around the state as well as a few out of state participants.  I am always blown away and thankful for the community involvement with the fundraising events we put on.”

The race had 93 participants with 70 walkers/runners in the 5K event and 23 in the 10K race. Taking first place in 5K was Madison Junker, while Rachel Bickford placed first in the 10K with a time of 41:14. The race exceeded with $5,500 in gross profits with DCB and St. Andrew’s each receiving $2,000 each after expenses. The college will use its proceeds to support athletic scholarships at DCB.

The health center will use its proceeds for its foundation office, which uses its finances to support the hospital so it can operate with the best medical personal and equipment it can offer the community and its surrounding areas.

“St. Andrew’s Health Center Foundation will be using the money toward equipment upgrades for patients,” said Patricia Halvorson, director of St. Andrew’s Health Center’s Foundation Office. “This will allow our patients to have a more comfortable hospital experience.”

Halvorson also said that she was pleased with the event.

“The Turtle Trot was a huge hit with the Trotters who participated and so much fun to put together,” Halvorson said. “We heard all positive remarks from everyone involved in the event, which was a great feeling after such an exciting day. We would like to extend a great, big thank you to all the trotters and volunteers who joined us in making the first ever Metigoshe Turtle Trot such a success.”
