The first annual Bottineau Car Club’s Charitable Show and Shine Public Choice event brought a large number of vehicle enthusiasts to Bottineau on Saturday who had the opportunity to see a number of great cars, trucks and motorcycles that ranged throughout the ages of motor vehicles.
“We were elated with the show,” said Fred Kainz, one of the producers of the Show and Shine. “It was twice our expectations.”
The event was held in the parking lot of Bottineau’s Walmart, which filled up the west end of the parking lot with 75 cars and trucks and 20 motorcycles, which included such vehicles as a Ford Model A, 2012 Chevy Camaro, Harley Davidson’s Cruiser and everything in between.
The first place winner of the event was Bottineau resident Brady Soland with a 1958 Chevy pick up. Duane Schroder of Max, N.D., placed second with a 1971 Chevelle and Albert Lesmann from Westhope receiving third place with a 1961 Nash Metropolitan.
Other winners included Glen Johnson with a 1969 Chevelle, Mel Auhs with a 1931 Plymouth, Randy Hermann with a Harley Davidson Cruiser and Allen Suchan with a 1961 Econoline.
Individuals to the event also had the opportunity to enjoy a car smash, dunk tank and hear the music group Highway 43 perform live.
Outside the car show and activities, a number of individuals and organization set up charitable booths to raise money for the AmVets, Crisis Center, Annie’s House, Turtle Mountain Veterinarian Society and Bottineau High School.
The booths took in hundreds of dollars, which will assist in hunger, domestic violence, abandon animals, the mentally and physically handicapped and a trip to Washington for the high school students.
Being a charitable event, the only fee to register a vehicle was one non-perishable can of food. However, more than just car owners brought a food item to the car show.
“Some of the car owners brought more than one can of food and a number of people who just came to see the vehicles brought canned food,” said Lisa Kainz, who was one of the co-coordinators of the car show who headed up the charitable events for the event. “We had a box for the canned goods, but so many cans kept coming in from the general public we had to go into Walmart and get grocery carts and start filling them up. By the end of the day we had two and a half carts filled with cans of food.
“We were very touched by everyone’s kindness with the canned food donation,” Lisa added. “And, the kindness everyone showed with the charitable organizations was just outstanding.”
Sponsors for the event included Bottineau Chamber of Commerce, Walmart, Carquest, Nodak Store, Premise Investments, Auto Value, NAPA Ketterling Auto Salvage and the National Guard.
With the success of the Show and Shine, the Bottineau car Club plans to do the car show again.
“We are already planning next year’s,” Fred said.
