Cindy Shattuck, candidate for the Sixth District House, had the opportunity to meet a number of individuals from Bottineau County on Monday during a Meet and Greet event hosted by Ruth Reitan at her home.
“It’s fun to get to know the people of the district that I hope I get to represent in Bismarck,” Shattuck said. “I care about what is going on in our state and with our people because North Dakota offers people a chance of a good life, and, we need to protect that for our future generations to ensure those opportunities are there for them.”
If elected, Shattuck stated that she will focus on a number of important matters which interest the resident of our district and state.
“Our state faces many challenges with water resources, road infrastructure, education and emergency services,” Shattuck said “These are very important to me and I think we have to work together and maintain them in the most effective ways.”
Shattuck is a lifetime resident of Velva, an employee of Verendrye Electric Cooperative for over 30 years and the mayor of Velva from 2002-10.
As mayor of Velva, Shattuck feels she can bring experience to the state’s House, which will assist the congressional members in making the proper decisions during the next legislative session.
“With experience as the mayor of Velva it will help me do well in the areas the state is facing many challenges in because I am dedicated and a hard worker,” Shattuck said. “With experiences in political sub-divisions as mayor there’s a lot of I can do because there is not a lot of representation down there in Bismarck for the areas of cities and towns and I am hoping to help out.”
Past and present experiences for Shattuck include being appointed to the McHenry County JDA, State President of the North Dakota League of Cities, State President of the General Federation of Women’s Club, Executive Board of the Souris Basin Planning Council and is the current president of the Minot Inter Agency Council.
Shattuck sits on the boards of St. Cecilia’s Church Council, Velva Association of Commerce and the Velva Medical Clinic. She is a member of the Velva Legion Auxiliary Royal, Christian Mother Confraternity and the Farmers Union. She is also a current member of the Velva Ambulance Service.
Volunteering her services is important to Shattuck for a number of reasons.
“I’m dedicated to improving the lives of others through community services. I feel that it is important and it is why I have been so active in being mayor, being the president of the General Federation of Women’s Club and being a volunteer of Velva Ambulance Service since 2002 as a first responder and driver.”
