The St. Joseph’s Community Health Foundation is sponsoring the retreat, “Hope and Healing,” for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault at Lake Metigoshe Sept. 21-23 with the desire to bring peace and mending to their mental, physical and emotional well-being.

“The retreat gives victims time away in a beautiful and safe space to focus on the many ways people seek and find healing,” stated the St. Joseph’s Community Health Foundation. “Some survivors find healing through creative endeavors like music and art, some through experimental means like spending time in nature, and through physical activities like walking. Some survivors process their experiences through journaling and writing, while others build a connection to their faith and spiritual community.

“This retreat will explore many ways that healing occurs and provide an opportunity to experience them,” St. Joseph’s Community Health Foundation added. “Every survivor’s healing journey is different and the retreat is intended to honor that.”

The “Hope and Healing” retreat will take place at Metigoshe Ministries Retreat Center and the three day event will have a number of speakers and activities to assist those who have been abused.

The keynote speakers and activity leaders have decades of experiences in the field of domestic violence and sexual assault.

The retreat will be facilitated by the statewide survivor advisory group, Life After Fear, in association with the Faith Base Initiative on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, which are projects of the North Dakota Council on Abused Women’s Services/Coalition Against Sexual Assault in North Dakota.

The retreat is free to attend, but individuals who want to attend must register. Individuals, who want to register, call Rev. Desiree Uhrich, Faith Base project coordinator, at (701) 228-2228. Individuals can also acquire a mail-in application at the First Lutheran Church or go online to www.ndcaws.org and click on event calendar to register. There is room for 15 individuals to attend the retreat.

“If you are interested, please register as soon as possible,” St. Joseph’s Community Health Foundation stated. “The deadline for registration is Sept 14.”
