With school in full swing, the public school enrollment in Bottineau County is up in two of the three school districts, while the other school has stayed even with its numbers.
BOTTINEAU
In the Bottineau School District, enrollment increased by 13 students from 2011 to 2012 with 610 students this year compared to 597 students last year.
Jason Kersten, superintendent of the Bottineau School District, stated that he was a little surprised by the increase in this year’s enrollment.
“At this point and time last year we were not expecting that kind of increase because last year we graduated 71 seniors and we projected 48 kindergarten students in the demographic meeting last spring. However, we actually have 58 kindergarten students this school year,” Kersten said. “The reasons behind the increase are people moving into the area and we have hired some staff members that are bringing students into the system as well.”
NEWBURG
This school year at Newburg United School District, enrollment is at 63, which is up by nine students when compared to the previous school year which had 54 students.
Kersten, who is also the superintendent at Newburg United, said that the increase comes from families moving into the district.
WESTHOPE
In the Westhope School District, enrollment has stayed the same from last year with 129 students enrolled for the 2012-13 school year.
