On Sept.15, Dakota College at Bottineau Logrollers organization and St. Andrew’s Foundation office will be holding the first ever Metigoshe Turtle Trot, which is run/walk to raise money athletic scholarships for DCB’s students and funding for St. Andrew’s Foundation. (To learn more about the Metigoshe Turtle Trot, go to the front page of this week’s Bottineau Courant)
Although this run/walk race is being planned as a fun and an enjoyable event, there is a very important side to this race, raising money for two very important entities in our community, which can assist literally a large number people far and wide.
When it comes tothe DCB’s Logrollers, the Metigoshe Turtle Trot can add money to the organization number one goal, raising money for athletic scholarships, which plays such an important role in today’s colleges for a number of students and for a variety of reasons.
Numerous individuals want to attend college and play sports, but not all of them can afford their academic dreams due to the large cost of gaining an education today. Not only do students have to afford tuition, but they also have to pay for housing, food, books, fees, clothes, daily living expenses, etc… the list goes on and on.
Scholarships come from organizations, businesses, sponsors and individuals like you who provide money to assist students pay for their education. Without all these entities college scholarships would never exist.
It is believed that over 70 percent of all students have to rely on scholarships to graduate from college, and without the scholarships they would not be able to gain a college education.
When it comes to athletic scholarships, the erudition grants athletes the ability to continue playing sports in college and drives them to train and do well in the sports they will play in college. It also gives them the chance to earn a college degree and go on to become productive individuals in the careers they choose. According the NCAA, very few students who play sports at the university level will go on to participate in a professional sport. The majority of all athletic students go on to work in their field of study. They go to be employed in medicine, law, education, engineering, politics, the arts and humanities and in the field of humanitarian work and so many more fields. And, for the majority of these athletic students, it would not happen if it was not for individuals like you who provide scholarships to them.
Athletic scholarships also allow colleges revenue from the large number of students who want to play sports. Sport teams provide numbers on college campuses, and number means financial returns to not only universities, but to communities, businesses and organizations.
If colleges provide good coaches, trainers, practice and fitness facilities, and provide the university with the best of the best to win championships, that means more student athletes want to attend your college, increasing revenue for colleges and its communities. And, it allows colleges to expand in size and provide more fields of studies for all its students to be part of and gain an education.
When it comes to St. Andrew’s Foundation office, the goal of this office according to the St. Andrew’s website is, “To secure the Financial Stability of the Health Care.”
The foundation works hard each year to make sure that the hospital can operate with the best medical personal and equipment it can offer the community and its surrounding areas. Without the foundation and its donors, the health center would not be able to provide as much care and treatment as they do today. And, although the health center provides tremendous care each and every day, finances for any health centers are tight at all times.
St. Andrew’s needs as many donors as they can receive, and by becoming a supporter of the foundation and health care facility it will grant the medical facility the opportunity to provide better care for its patients.
You see, the Metigoshe Turtle Trot, just isn’t a fun and enjoyable activity, the run/walk has a serious tone to it, too, because if individuals from all around the area participate, they will be providing money to two very important institutions in Bottineau. Two establishments which have the ability to help others move forward in life and provide them with better lives, which in turn, they can go on to assists others for the better.
