During his senior season in 2011-12, Bottineau High School forward Logan Millican led the state in scoring. Millican will now bring that scoring prowess to Dakota College at Bottineau.
DCB Head Coach Travis Rybchinski recently announced that Millican has agreed to play for the Jacks in the 2012-13 school year.
“We are happy Logan has decided to come play for the Lumberjacks. We are very lucky to have a player like him join our program. He was one of the top players in the state the last two years and we are happy he chose to stay at home and play at DCB,” Rybchinski stated.
Millican too is excited to play for the Jacks and with his old teammate, Seth Serhienko.
Proximity and familiarity were reasons for Millican to stay in Bottineau.
“It’s my home town and I’ll get to play hockey and go to school, so it was a pretty easy decision,” Millican said. “Travis (Rybchinski) has been the assistant coach (at BHS), so I know him pretty well, and it will be nice to be coached by him again.”
The Jacks look forward to adding another skilled scorer to their squad. Last season the Jacks had a record of 8-19-1 and missed heading to the National Championship for the first time in nearly a decade.
Rybchinski hopes that Millican can add the scoring that the Jacks needed to defeat new rival Williston State, whom they must defeat to gain entrance to Nationals.
“Logan will provide us with that high end forward who can chip in offensively and also is very good at killing penalties. He is going to see a lot of ice time in many situations. I can’t wait to hit the ice and watch him every day in practice,” Rybchinski stated.
Millican led North Dakota Class A hockey in scoring last season as he amassed 64 points on 40 goals and 24 assists. Millican was also named the West Region’s Senior Athlete of the Year, and was a Mr. Hockey candidate.
As a junior Millican was the fifth-leading scorer in North Dakota with 52 points and tied for the state-lead in goals at 31.
