The Annie’s House project at the Bottineau Winter Park (BWP) is heading into the final stages as the main event begins on Sept. 6.
That is when an estimated 400 volunteers from the local area as well as New York and other areas abroad will congregate to do a “barn raising” event.
The building they will raise will be an 11,500 square foot chalet that will be state of the art, and designed specifically for adaptive skiers.
“People are still asking me where on the bottom of the hill we will be building, but we are building it on the top parking lot,” said Brad Knudson, manager of BWP.
BWP will become a 50/50 adaptive ski facility and will upgrade much equipment.
Monday a meeting of local leaders took place at the Bottineau Armory as the Bottineau Chamber of Commerce as well as the BWP were looking for help in rallying volunteers and volunteer materials as well as ideas for the barn raising event Sept. 6-9.
Knudson, Cedric Jacobson and Diane Olson provided information on the projects progress as well as volunteers, services and facilities that will be needed during the big days.
“This is a process,” Olson said. “It will change as we go forth, but there is an agenda.”
Loose itineraries and agendas for a number of the projects were passed out to those at the meeting.
“We need our volunteers to step up,” Olson said. “We will have a lot of people coming into the community.”
Local volunteers are needed to help do many things during the Sept. 6-9 weekend.
Some of the things volunteers are needed for include: feeding other volunteers, help with tools, organizing entertainment, water coordination, and various side projects.
“We want you to say what you’re interested in. We want you to take on a task,” Olson said.
