Editors Note: The Bottineau Courant will continue to profile the five gardens that will be toured in the Family Crisis Center’s “Afternoon in the Garden” tour. This week will include the Dakota College at Bottineau and Dwight and Gloria Olson of the Lake Metigoshe area.
To raise money the Family Crisis Center (FCC) of Bottineau is hosting their second annual “Afternoon in the Garden Tour” from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 2.
The tour began last year as a fundraising event and was well attended. Family Crisis Center board members Avis Tvedt and Nancy Underwood think this is a unique opportunity to observe beauty.
“Each garden is unique,” Underwood said. “Everyone has different ideas of how to plant a garden.”
The tour will visit four homes in the area as well as the campus of Dakota College at Bottineau.
Two stops include: The campus of the Dakota College at Bottineau on 105 Simrall Boulevard, which will be “high tunnel greenhouses,” according to the FCC. DCB will have tours of the greenhouses on the top of the hour beginning at 3 p.m., and ending with a tour beginning at 6 p.m.
The farthest stop will be the garden of Dwight and Gloria Olson on 10444 16th Ave. NE in the Lake Metigoshe area. The FCC describes the Olson’s as, “a natural secret garden.”
The proceeds going to the FCC for domestic violence needs. Refreshments will be provided throughout the tour.
To learn how to become a part of the tour for next year or any other additional questions, people are asked to contact Underwood at 228-2732 or ask questions as they enjoy the tour.
The FCC is located in the old ‘Rags’ building at 509 Main Street, and includes improvements to the building as future plans.
