One local Bottineau man was injured on July 14 after he rolled his vehicle on Highway 6 coming from Souris to Bottineau.
According to Steve Watson, sheriff of Bottineau County, Patrick Monson, 21, was traveling east on Highway 6 from Souris to Highway 14 when a wheel from his vehicle went off the road, sending him into the ditch. Monson tried to correct himself and came out of the ditch, across Highway 6 and into the north ditch where he struck a dirt ridge and rolled his vehicle over once and ended on its wheels again.
Monson was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the vehicle and sustained serious injuries. He was transported to a hospital where he is recovering from his injuries.
The accident is still under investigation.
The highway Monson was driving on was under road construction and being prepared for overlay from Highway 14 to Westhope. The road’s edges have been cut in preparation for the overlay, leaving a drop-off from the edge of the road into the ditch. The dirt ridge in the north ditch was also in place due to the road construction taking place.
Watson is asking individuals to drive with more care on Highway 6 while the road repair is taking place.
