This past summer, a number of automotive enthusiasts have been driving around the local area with some classic cars granting them the opportunity to drive a piece of history, enjoying the company of other car aficionados and turning some heads of area residents as the cars drive by them.

Bottineau resident, Jon Miller, is the individual responsible for these vehicles making appearances in the area, which is a project he has dreamed about placing in gear for a number of years.

“Kim Herbel and I have talked about it for years, but it just seemed liked everybody just blew it off and we never did get it going,” Miller said. “Then, one night Eric Nostdahl and I just started talking about it and throwing some ideas around. I then talked to some of my friends from St. John who have cars and the idea started spreading by word of mouth and it became a reality.”

The first event, which has commonly become known as “Cruise Night”, took place during the week of the Bottineau County Fair when 16 drivers brought their vehicles to Herbels’ Dario to show them off, talked with other car fans and then went for a drive.

This past week, the group met again at the Dario and made a trip over to Dunseith. On August 2, the group is going to get together again and plan to drive to Lake Metigoshe or Westhope.

“Our plans are to hold this event at least once a month throughout the summer and into the fall,” Miller said. “If you have a cool car, new car, old car, quirky car or whatever you have, you are more than welcome to participate in the event with us.”

So far, the event has seen some vintage cars, which included a Ford from the 1930s with suicide doors, a T-Buick Roadster and Miller’s favorite car.

“Tom Hugo has a 1969 Chevelle which is just fantastic,” Miller said. “But, the great thing about this event is that all the cars are cool.”

Miller stated that his next goal is to establish a car club for the local area so individuals who have a true interest in motor vehicles can come together and enjoy the love they have for cars and trucks.
Individuals, who have an interest in participating in Cruise Night, or being part of a car club, can contact Miller at (701) 228-2350 or Nostdahl at (701) 228-3187.
