Area kids headed to Shrine Bowl

Coaches and players for the 38th annual North Dakota Shrine Bowl will report for practice at Mayville State University on Monday, July 9. The games will be played on Saturday, July 14 at Fargo Shanley High School, with the 11 man game at 4 p.m. and the 9 man scheduled to kick off at 7 p.m. The games will be broadcast by Midco Sports Network.
Players representing Bottineau County include Bottineau’s Mark LaCroix and Matt Bowers and Westhope-Newburg-Glenburn’s Taylor Lesmann and Josh Farmer.
LaCroix was a linebacker and wide receiver who led Bottineau in tackles and receiving yards.
Bowers was the second leading rusher for the Braves from the fullback position. He also played defensive end.
Bowers plans on playing fullback at Valley City State University next fall.
Lesmann was a running back and defensive back for the Sioux.
Farmer was an All-State offense and defensive lineman. He plans on playing at Minot State next fall.
Also participating as an assistant coach is Bottineau’s Rob Bedlion.
This is the first time all four teams will be housed and practice at the same sight, and the Kem and El Zagal Shriners, Mayville State University, the community of Mayville, and the North Dakota High School Coaches Association are looking forward to an excellent week. The teams will travel to the Shrine Hospital in the Twin Cities on Wednesday, and in addition to the banquet in Fargo on Saturday morning, there are activities planned throughout the week.
Press Day is scheduled for Thursday, July 12 at 1 p.m. at the Mayville State University athletic complex.
