Raising more than $70,000, the Metigoshe Ministries quilt auction celebrated their 30th year this past Saturday with both live and silent auctions.

The top quilt came from a group of ladies from Leeds, N.D. Maxine Follman, Irma Dulmage and Ruth Budd’s large machine-stitched applique quilt fetched $5,000 at the auction.

“We just thought it would be a challenge with all the applique work on it,” Follman said. “We thought it would take two years to make, but once we got started we got so enthused to see how each block got done we got done in a much shorter time.”

The quilt ladies managed to finish the quilt in only six months.

“We figured with the machine quilter it took about 350 hours,” Dulmage said.

The quilt, which featured woods and outdoors-themed patterns was the perfect quilt for the Metigoshe area according to Follman.

“It was a lot of applique work, and it fits the theme of Metigoshe so well, because it is so woodsy,” Follman said. “This has been our most involved quilt and the most intricate one we have given.”

Dulmage mentioned that the ladies from Leeds have been donating quilts to the Metigoshe Ministries fund raiser for the past five years.

“I think giving it to Metigoshe Ministries and raising the funds to help out the young people is part of it,” Dulmage said as to why they quilt.

They believe it is a great cause to fund.

“It is such a good experience for the kids, and kids come back so enthused and excited about it that you would hate to not see it be a program,” Follman said.

The full total of $70,032 raised was down a little from the record of more than $83,000 last year. The money raised helps pay for Camp Metigoshe and all the Metigoshe Ministries does.
