Following the departure of Assistant football coach/Assistant Athletic director Andre Mooney and head men’s basketball coach/head volleyball coach Ken Keysor, Dakota College at Bottineau has been seeking replacements for the two positions.

Progress has since been made on both fronts as finalists have been named for the  Assistant football coach/Assistant Athletic director position and interviews with viable candidates for the basketball position are soon to be conducted.

DCB athletic director Scott Johnson confirmed this week that four finalists have been selected out of 15 total applicants for Mooney’s position. Johnson was blown away by the quality of the applicants.

“The quality applicants that we got for the Assistant Footbal/Assistant AD was just amazing,” Johnson said. “We got 15 applicants that had doctorate degrees, masters degrees and real experience.”

The four finalists, which have been handed over to Dean Ken Grosz for a final decision are Dennis Ziegler, Dan Davis, Chad Martin and Eric Kornhauser.

“We’ll forward our results on to Dr. Grosz and he’ll make the final decision on that,” Johnson said.

As for Keysor’s position Johnson stated that three interivews for the job are to be conducted this week.

Those interviewing for the position include: Robb Floco, a former Williston State assistant coach, currently in Arizona and Cory Fehringer, an assistant coach at Dickinson State Univeristy.

Johnson stated that the men’s basketball coach, whomever it might be, will likely only coach volleyball for one season and then the volleyball job may become combined with fast-pitch softball for a full-time position.

As for the candidates for both jobs, Johnson said they were looking for someone with small college experience.

“We were really looking for someone who knows smaller schools,” Johnson said. “Someone who knows how to recruit and can bring students into a smaller college.”

Mooney left DCB to return to Arizona for a different opportunity and Keysor took a position at Burke-Divide Electric Cooperative in part to spend more time with his family.
