Simple Threads Inc. will be moving to a new location in Bottineau in the near future and will also be constructing a new building for its business.

Simple Thread Inc. is a quilt shop which offers customers quality merchandise and classes. Janet Carnahan and Carmen Dolbeare own Simple Threads, and they will be moving to the former property of the Dakota Trailer Court, which is directly east of Tommy Turtle Lanes on the frontage road of Hwy 5.

Carnahan and Dolbeare’s current building, which they rent, has been sold, leaving them without a building to continue their business. For the past few months, the two owners have been searching for a building so they can keep their business open in Bottineau, and with a little luck recently, they were able to purchase the property of their future location.

"We had three criterias while looking for a place, which included affordability, accessibility and a place that was mildew and moisture free because cotton absorbs odors," Carnahan said. "It was extremely difficult in finding these three criterias, but in the end it worked out."

THE BUILDING

With the property purchased, groundbreaking for the structure will begin this month. The building will resemble a rustic looking cabin with more room then the present structure. Carnahan and Dolbeare also stated that they will continue to offer the same services in their new building as they do in their present shop.

With a move on the horizon, Carnahan and Dolbeare are eager for their future.

"We have been living a long time with uncertainty (of whether they would be able to find a location and keep the business open)," Carnahan and Dolbeare said. "But, we are excited now and can’t wait to get into our new building."

HISTORY

Simple Threads Inc. was established in 2003 when Carnahan opened Simple Threads in New Rockford, N.D. In 2007, she expanded her business to Bottineau and named the store Simple Threads II with Carmen Dolbeare assisting in the operations of the Bottineau store.

In 2008, Carnahan made the decision to close Simple Threads in New Rockford. Carnahan and Dolbeare then became co-owners of the Bottineau business in 2009. They renamed the quilt shop Simple Threads Inc., added more floor space and started selling collectible and antiques merchandise, along with their quilting products.
