All of the North Central region of track and field gathered in Rugby on Saturday for the region meet as athletes sought their last chance at making the field for the state tournament.
Rugby won both the boy’s and the girl’s side of things at the region meet, and will send both teams to state at the Bismarck Bowl on May 26-27.
Velva finished in second in both boy’s and girls.
At the meet, Bottineau qualified three more athletes and three more relay teams for the state meet. The new qualifiers were the boy’s 4x200 meter and 4x400 meter relay teams, the girl’s 4x400 relay team, Whitney Page in the long jump, Maria Diepolder in the pole vault and Ashleigh Aufforth in the 200 meter dash.
“It wasn’t the greatest of conditions, but I thought that we competed well on Saturday,” said Bottineau Head Coach David Hoff. “We qualified in a lot of events, and in a way that we can do well at the state meet if we can duplicate those performances.”
In total the Braves are sending two individuals and three relay teams to the state meet. The Stars are sending four individuals and three relay teams.
