Only one golfer managed to brave the winds at Star City Golf Course in Velva and qualify for state at the Region 4 individual qualifying tournament last Thursday.

Kylee Conway of Westhope-Newburg shot an impressive 81, the best score in the region all season, to make the trip to Carrington come the end of the month.

Samantha Cottingham was the only other golfer in the 80s. The Central McLean product came up four strokes shy of the qualifying mark of 84 after firing an 88.

Rugby took home the win in the meet with a stellar 403 as three of the four scores used to make their total landed in the top 10.

Bottineau took second place, winding up 28 strokes behind Velva. The Stars Ashley Blue (101) and Bailey Neubauer (102) took eighth and ninth place respectively.

Rounding out the Bottineau scores were senior Morgan Klebe (110), Alicia Monson (118) and Abby Bristol (124).
The team qualifier will also be in Velva this Friday. The top three teams from the region team qualifier as well as any team who shoots 60 over par or better will advance to the state meet on May 29-30 in Carrington.

Also qualifying for state on the day will be the top 10 individuals and ties or anyone who shots 15 over par or better or anyone who shoots 10 or fewer strokes behind the tournament’s medalist.
