Several Bottineau track athletes hit state-qualifying marks

Tuesday marked another action-packed track meet for both the Bottineau Braves and Stars as they went to Rugby to compete in the Hanneman Memorial Track and Field meet.
On the Braves portion of the competition Bottineau wound up with a ninth place finish, racking up 33 points.

Top finishers included: Cody Bedlion, fifth place in the 3200 with a time of 12:27.59; the Bottineau 400 relay team, fourth place at 47.56; the 800 relay team with a second place finish at 1:37.88; the 1600 relay team with a third place finish at 3:29.96 and Harrison Aide, finishing in first place in the pole vault after clearing 12 feet, six inches, which qualifies him for state.

The Bottineau Stars faired a little better, totaling 69 points, good enough for fifth place. Rugby won both the boy’s and the girl’s side of the events.

The best finishers for the Stars’ were: Senior Ashleigh Aufforth, fourth place in the 100 meters at 14 seconds; Maria Diepolder, fourth place in the 400 at 1:05.26; The Bottineau 400 relay team of Courtney Gallagher, Whitney Page, Megan Fix and Aufforth took first and qualified for state with a time of 51.91; the 800 relay team came in second at 1:51.99; the 1600 relay team of Page, Fix, Aufforth and Diepolder took first with a time of 4:22.59; Diepolder took second in the pole vault with a cleared height of eight feet, six inches; Page also cleared eight feet, six inches, but took third; senior Heidi Artz got a distance of 98 feet, nine inches in the javelin to take first place and lastly, Gallagher qualified for state and finished third with a long jump of 16 feet, five inches.

Potential meets that the Braves and Stars could attend this week included a meet in Devils Lake last night as well as meets in Langdon on Thursday and Fessenden on Saturday. The Regional track meet will be on either May 18 or 19 in Rugby.
