Bottineau girls capture first at home meet

With near ideal conditions and a home course advantage the Bottineau girl’s golf team caputured a team title for the first time this season at the Bottineau Invite last Tuesday at Bottineau Country Club.

Senior Morgan Klebe carded an 18-hole score 97, a career-best, to take second place and lead the charge for Bottineau, who had four finishers in the top 10.

Bottineau also used scores from junior Ashley Blue (102), sophomore Bailey Neubauer (103) and freshman Jacie Ceglowski (114).

Blue’s round was good enough for fifth place, while Neubauer took sixth and Ceglowski came out in 10th place.
The team total of 416 was the best score for Bottineau this season.

Also playing for Bottineau were seventh-graders Alicia Monson and Abby Bristol. The pair carded scores of 121 and 127 respectively, both career bests.

Bottineau’s next scheduled meet is on Tuesday at Westhope, and they will go to an individual state-qualifying meet on Thursday in Velva.

Monson, Braaten, Hulse qualify for state

Junior Zack Monson was one of nine individuals that cracked 79 or better last Thursday in Velva to qualify for the state tournament at Oxbow, May 29-30.

Monson shot a 77 at Star City Golf Course, good enough to qualify and to finish in sixth place.

As a team Bottineau finished in sixth place as well with a season-best total of 331. The Braves were four strokes behind second place Benson County (327) and three strokes behind Rugby and Northern Lights. Host Velva topped them by one stroke.

Fellow Bottineau County team, Westhope-Newburg, took first place in the meet, blowing away the competition with a score of 307.

Two Sioux qualified for state, as Hunter Braaten shot a 72, and senior Trevor Hulse shot 74. The rounds were good enough for fourth and fifth place respectively.

The overall medalist for the meet was Nick Myhre of Northern Lights, who shot an impressive 67.

Other finishers for Bottineau included: junior Taylor Parisien 84, freshman Luke Amsbaugh and Brock Hiltner 85. Also golfing for Bottineau were Kameron Mooney and Alex Bristol, who shot 101 and 102 respectively.

The next meet for both the Braves and Sioux will be on Thursday in Rugby for the second individual state-qualifier.
